Few days ago while i open some old boxes, found some old books and printouts of the rx7…

These are a few and not to mention all the japanese hyperREV and the RX& Magazines. Such a big fan.

Used to be a big fan of Rx7s, there were days building engines middle of the nights, started without exhaust and receiving complains of very very excessive noise level. Still remember where lights of the neighbours were on when the engine screams…

Back in 1992, where cars basically shaped from boxes and crates, mazda japan, came out with a phenomenal design to replace the rx7 savannah fc3s, and its called the efini. With the silky curve and shape from the bottom rill the roof, the front looks like a bullet which can travel in the speed of lights (partly thanks to the pop up lights design) and the rear lights which looks like an old telephone handle. The interior came from the cockpit of the fighter jet. Its simply became the futuristic car of the nineties and the best part is, its still looks great today after 17 years.

Its one of the most propotional sports, the cabin looks just right to the size of the car cos theres is no rear quarter glass and its a 2+2 which means two adults and two chi hua hua. And it has a sexy thin front end which most of the FR(front engine rear wheel drive) sports car cannot achieve. Thanks to the small 1.3 liter rotary engine. And because of that, the car is 50:50 ratio, great handling and fun to drive.

The amount of torque form the 1.3 little rotary puppy its just unbelievable. With just some light tuning the engine can produce massive horsepower with the sound of a two stroke motorbike which can rev up to 8000 rpm. But of corse if you do rev the engine that high, the fuel consumption if faster than the acceleration. Even for normal drive is equivalent to a 3.6 liter engine in a heavy four wheel drive. Especially when its highly tune.

The major different of the rotary turbo compares with the piston turbos its every time when you about to change gear, you press the clutch down, for normal piston engine turbo car, you will feel kind of a drop of Gs, but for rotary turbo, the car will just keep flowing during that process and keep on accelerate ones the next gear is engaged and the accelerator was pressed.

Since then the americans took it to break some high speed records, the aussies used to create new quarter mile  drag record. And some have them to makes themselve looks better, enhance their confidence. And some have them to do a fast project speed monster which ends up in the garage most of the time.

I love that car, the rotary engine. If not because of the fuel consumption, its a great piece of art that mazda ever create. Looking forward for something like this again in the future..
